Mrs. Wetherell’s MOLASSES BROWNIES

For me, these are a new discovery. They are simple, easy, freeze well, and are nice with a cup of tea or coffee, anytime. I got the recipe from my friend, Bonnie, who got it from her Mom, who got it from Mrs. Wetherell.

2/3 cup butter
1 ˝ cups sugar
2/3 cup molasses
2 eggs

2 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Cream together the first 4 ingredients. Add flour, soda, and vanilla (I rub the soda between my fingers to ensure that there are no lumps).

Bake in a 9x13" pan at 325° F for 40-50 minutes. Cut into squares when completely cooled. They will fall, and they will be chewy, and they are good that way!
